Fluxcore :: PROMISE LAND :: Multicultural Perspectives on the Concept of Journey
What is Your Promise Land?
DEADLINE: Friday July 9, 2004, 5:00 p.m.
To Interested Artists: To Celebrate Chicago Artist Month in 2004, Fluxcore would like to invite you to submit conceptual and meaningful works for a contemporary multimedia fashion event entitled Promise Land. The event will take place on Friday, October 29 starting at 6:00pm at Chicago's Athenaeum Theatre located at 2936 N. Southport, Chicago, IL 60657. Admission is $8.00 per person with the proceeds going toward covering the production costs of the event and launching a traveling version of this show.
Promise Land is a contemporary Fashion event with innovation. Fluxcore will incorporate performance, video, photography, motion graphics, dance, and other experimental mediums into a fashion event with couture and wearable art. The event is a unique way to present many aspects of the concept of journey as seen through the eyes of many talented artists and creative groups. We aim to portray a diverse range of perspectives and ethnic backgrounds represented in the Chicago communities and beyond.
Promise Land will showcase various artistic interpretations of idealistic spaces and expectations while one is on a "journey". Fluxcore's interpretation of a "journey" ranges from scenarios, such as immigrating to the United States from foreign lands to the journey of a child into adulthood. We would like to emphasize the "journey" as not always literally a physical one. A "journey" can be interpreted as a mental or emotional transition. It is the in-between stages while one is in transit: be it physical, mental, or emotional.
The show will be divided into three sections: the first will portray the beginning of the journey, the second will portray the mid-point of the journey, and the last will portray the end of the journey. Artwork, fashion, music, dance, and video will be combined into live spectacles, or sets if you will. In each section there will be 5 such spectacles or sets. If you would like to participate please download and complete the respective forms with all requested documents and send it by Friday July 9, 2004 5:00 p.m. to:

Phew! It's Wednesday and I am still recovering from this past weekend! I launched my new shirt company campaign at the Andersonville Midsommarfest this past Saturday and Sunday. It was such a blast. We had a fantastic booth designed by Philament. Our House Music CDs sold like hot cakes. Thanks to U.R.W.E, LASO, Philament, Fifth Corona Designs, and Jim Dimitriou of WEAR ME OUT for making it all work for this festival. Check out the City Boy Website to purchase the shirts and listen to music.
With that said, I would like to give props to my main source of musical inspiration, Kaskade. I just got his new album as a producer and man is it HOT! I love him, and you should too! Check out his website at www.kaskademusic.com
Also, make sure you check out the new Miss Kittin CD, my other DJ idol. Her new album with original singles, "I Com" is really awesome. Check her site out at www.misskittin.com. She is fierce. More later, monkeys!
