Madonna is my Idol

I just saw Madonna this last thursday, and it was unbelievable. I knew I was going to be blown away. I saw her "Re-invention Tour" in 2004, which was my first time seeing her live. As a media artist/designer and DJ, it is always inspiring to see Madonna's vision come to life in her music, accompanied by her performances and videos. Her concerts are always an audio/visual playground for the senses, and I always get such a high soaking it in. The videos and graphics projected on her huge screens from this tour and her previous one were absolutely amazing. For the "Confessions Tour", she opened her concert with "Future Lovers", which is in the new "Confessions on a Dancefloor" album. I predicted that she would switch the song over to "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer, because the melody and style of the "Future Lovers" tune sounds very similar to the original Donna Summer track. I actually thought about that combo for one of my DJ sets.

But the intensity and anticipation of the beginning of the concert was what gave me goosebumps. I knew she was going to project an amazing video piece to set the mood before she revealed herself to the audience. You could tell that the intense ambiant music was building up to the "Future Lovers" song, and what was projecting on the screens were perfectly stylized video clips depicting Madonna as an equestrian queen, walking up to her horse, almost fondling it. She is decked out in a dominatrix-esque riding outfit. In the video, there is a close up of her face as she tells the audience -

"I'm gonna tell you about love
Let's forget your life
forget your problems
Administration, bills and loans
Come with me..."

It was absolutely brilliant. She looked HOT. I was in Heaven.

The stage extended into a narrow catwalk halfway through the middle of the United Center, ending in a larger platform right smack in the middle of the main floor. A huge mirrored disco ball encrusted with $2 million-worth of Swarovski crystals descended from the ceiling, and of course, it opened up like a flower and out came Madonna in full equestrian dominatrix attire! It was great!

Other notable moments were her 70s disco Saturday Night Fever "Music" number. She came out in full John Travolta white suit regalia. Oh man, was it HOT! I couldn't get over it. Then she sang "I Love New York" playing electric guitar. Her band was decked out in white, their instruments mounted on top of white pedestals. The animation piece accompanying this number was awesome. It was an animated traced outline of the NYC skyline. Here dancers came out wearing all black with white neck ties and white sneakers. It was very Rock/Electro-Clash/New Wave. I came home and dreamt about the concert. And I woke up the next morning with a smile.

Map of Countries I have visited

Hey, this is a cool little map thingy that lets you select all the countries you have visited. I thought it was amusing. It takes very little to amuse me.

My goal is to have the entire map filled out in a few years, and at least Australia by Fall 2006 ("hint, hint, wink, wink" to the RBMA people, if you are reading this blog entry). Cheers. Ron.

They know who I am in Germany

Or at least the ones who read this thread on this German Message Board. Someone posted a message about the First Friday event I deejayed for in May of this year. Speaking of Germany, I miss my good friends from Berlin and Kiel. Peter, if you are reading this, I will be back to Berlin soon! And Tobi, if you are reading this, where the hell are you? I can't seem to get a hold of you these days. "Help me Tobi-Won-Kenobi, you're my only hope..." (remember?). If you are reading this, please contact me. I would love to catch up.

And my cousin Micky just opened up a boutique in Hamburg selling all his clothing designs. My cousin Micky is the best designer in Germany, by the way. I had the privelege of seeing his cabaret show while I was in Hamburg a few years ago.

OK, enough about Germany - did I tell you that Chicago rocks in the summer. It was a perfect day yesterday. Everyone and their mother was out and about enjoying the perfect weather. It was so great out that I just couldn't stand it. I was in Chicago Heaven. We Chicagoans love the moment when summer first arrives. The vibe of the entire city changes. Everyone is so happy. I went to First Fridays this Friday and DJ Greg Haus rocked the MCA. There were also female impersonators in the outside back terrace of the MCA. The Shakira impersonator really impressed me. She was almost too convincing, or maybe it was my really strong vodka drinks. Anyway, it was a great time and I got to hang out with Miss Sahari a/k/a Annette Hawkins - from the Annette Hawkins Dance Ensemble. I had a great time, girl. We should do it more often!
